High School / Dual Credit
Dual Credit
- A written memorandum of understanding between an eligible postsecondary institution and a school district entered pursuant to the Kansas Challenge to Secondary School Students Act for the purpose of offering dual credit courses to eligible students who receive both high school credit and college credit.
Concurrent Credit
- A subset of dual credit and means enrollment of high school students in dual credit courses, pursuant to a dual credit cooperative agreement. Courses are taught by high school teachers during the regular high school day in which students receive both high school credit and college credit for completing the course.
DC3 Dual/Concurrent credit is a partnership with area high schools to help high school students get a head start on their college career. These students are provided the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are able to take General Education (Prerequisite/Core) classes, excluding preparatory and ESL classes, per the tuition and fees listed below. Students are also eligible to enroll in the Excel in CTE (Workforce) eligible programs.
Dual/Concurrent students have the same placement and prerequisite requirements as traditional students, and also hold the same content and rigor as traditional on-campus classes.
There are three ways students can receive college credit while still in high school:
- Area high schools may offer classes at the high school with instructors who are certified through DCCC to teach college credit.
- Area high school students may take classes on DCCC campus with other college and high school students.
- Area high school students may take online classes through DCCC on their own time, or during school hours by arrangement with their high school.
If you or your student are interested in participating in the DCCC Dual/Concurrent academic or workforce classes, please see your high school counselor or outreach coordinator. You may also contact the Dual/Concurrent office at DCCC in the student Union.
